Morocco in history: it is in the semifinals, Portugal beaten. Rui Patricio still on the bench

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal take to the field against the surprise Morocco, a game valid for the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The first half starts with the Lusitanian formation that tries to take possession of the game, but holding the ball with a sterile and slow offensive maneuver, also thanks to the solidity of the Maghreb rear guard. For its part, Morocco is not watching and always starts well on the counter-attack, when it can, resulting dangerous on some occasion. The first chance for Portugal comes with the header of Joao Felix who is screwed in the corner by Bono. In the final of the first half, however, passes Morocco with its usual quick restart: Diogo Costa misses the exit time and En-Nesyri is good at putting the ball in the net. The Lusitanian national team then tries to raise the pace, but the splendid shot/ cross of Bruno Fernandes is printed on the cross, just at the end of the first 45 minutes.

The second half starts with Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal immediately tried to find the goal of the draw, but the first real chance came with the header of Goncalo Ramos, who finished just beside the Moroccan goal. Shortly after, Bruno Fernandes goes another time near the net with a great shot that grabs the crossbar. In the second half of the fraction, the Fernando Santos National Team raises the pace a lot, going a step away from par with a shot of Joao Felix of rare workmanship that finds a real miracle of Bono. The extreme Moroccan defender repeats, at 90 minutes, closing the mirror to Cristiano Ronaldo. After starting the eight minutes of recovery decreed by Facundo Tello, Morocco loses Walid Cheddira for expulsion, but the Lusitani can not realize the opportunities derived from the numerical superiority.

At the triple whistle, begins the great feast of the Moroccan people who know they are the protagonist of a historic feat for all African football. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo leaves in tears and has to say goodbye to the hopes of bringing his Portugal to the roof of the world.

RUI PATRICIO – The Roma goalkeeper remains, once again, on the bench for the entire 90 minutes. Rui Patricio’s World Cup ends with zero minutes played.
