The two former Roma goalkeepers were standout performers in Barcelona and Liverpool’s victories in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16: fans have reacted in diverse ways, while Sabatini’s reaction has also come in.
Wojciech Szcz?sny and Alisson Becker were absolute showstoppers last night, in Barcelona and Liverpool’s narrow away victories against Benfica and PSG respectively in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The two were among the best performers for their respective clubs, with the Brazilian goalkeeper also clinching the title of ‘Player of the Match’ at the conclusion of the showdown at Parc des Princes. On social media, photos quickly went viral of when both donned the jersey of Roma during the 2016-17 season, sparking various reactions from the Giallorossi fans. Some, in fact, have written “imagine having them both on the team at the same time and still not winning anything,” or even “absurd not being able to win anything with them in goal and Salah and Dzeko in attack.” Others, however, have referred to those who the two goalkeepers (the Pole who returned to Arsenal after the loan and then went to Juventus, the Brazilian who was sold to Liverpool) were replaced within the following years, from Olsen to Pau Lopez. Some, on the other hand, have responded with a simple but heartfelt “Go Roma”, while others have commented “Mile (Svilar) will be next” or “now we have Mile”. Even Walter Sabatini, the man who brought both to Roma, has commented on the performances of Szczesny and Alisson: “Eternally proud, my boys“.
